About the artist

Since 2014, Carey has been based in Warwick with a studio in her garden where she makes mostly porcelain pots, decorated with sgraffito designs inspired by nature and poetry and also runs regular workshops. Carey’s work is currently available at Court Barn Museum, Chipping Campden, or studio visit/ by appointment.

Carey studied art at Leeds Polytechnic (1975 -78) and Illustration at Croydon College. She gained an Art Teacher’s Certificate (PGCE) at Goldsmiths and has taught art and ceramics over many years to children and adults.

Between 2004 and 2014, Carey worked at Torquil Pottery and The Gallery Upstairs, Henley-in-Arden, latterly running the business with her brother, his partner, Andrea and the help of Jayne Lucas and Neil Mathias. This was a popular centre in the Midlands for art and craft selling the work of many well known contemporary artists and makers. It was founded in 1960 by her father, Reg Moon. As well as producing her own work, Carey curated group exhibitions for 40 – 50 artists twice a year, and taught regular workshops in the pottery.
